What are We Doing?
Todd Malicoat, Lauren Vaccarello and Greg Niland are running in the Nike Marathon on October 18, 2008 to raise money to fight cancer. This beautiful course is taking place on the cable car hills of San Francisco. Come on if you are gonna run in a marathon why pick an easy one.
We have joined the Team In Training group of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. This group is helping to train us as we raise the big bucks to fight cancer. The Team In Training coaches are the real deal. While they are beating us into shape by making us do hill repeats and other enjoyable (haha) workouts they are also training for their own charity runs. Greg’s coach in NYC ran the Vermont 100 race in July. That is not 100 kilometers that is 100 miles and what is crazier is that he finished in about 23 hours - Coach Ramon’s amazing story.
Enough about our great coaches lets get back to bragging about how great we our. Did we mention that us three crazy fools are running a marathon through the hills of San Francisco to help little kids with cancer. Join us in raising money to fight cancer and show that SEO and internet marketing are the most helpful people in the world.
Why are We Doing This?
The reason behind this inspirational charity race is because Greg was awoken one night by God and she commanded him to do good and turn away from his disgusting life filled with paid links, cloaked websites and those long nights of conference partying financed with payday loan and pill sites.
Uhhh, actually it wasn’t anything that spectacular but still very important, we want to save lives and get in better shape. The three of us all agree that Team In Training is the best way to accomplish this. Here are some quick things to think about
- Every 5 minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer
- Since Team In Training started, childhood leukemia deaths has declined 70%
- Too many friends and families have been impacted with leukemia and lymphoma
- Blood cancer research has helped provide breakthroughs with other cancer research
Cancer patients have crazy expenses and we are not just talking about the expensive medicine and research. Cancer patients can’t take public transportation (since chemo destroys their immune system). Leukemia and Lymphoma Society helps patients in need cover unexpected but necessary expenses like taxi fare to their weekly chemotherapy. Feel good about yourself and help us fight cancer by donating now.
Who is Doing This?
Todd Malicoat aka stuntdubl, has been involved in search marketing since 2001. He is a regular speaker at the search conferences and has recently sorta quit smoking. He has provided a ton a free advice on his blog and on webmaster forums. Maybe if you read something useful from him you could repay that by donating to his fundraising account (HINT, HINT). Even if you think his internet ramblings are not helpful you should still donate since he is a semi-former smoker and will be running in the smog and fog filled San Francisco charity race.
Lauren Vaccarello aka I’ll kill you if you publish my high school nickname, has been invovled in internet marketing since 2005 and is way nicer (and better looking) than both Todd and Greg. If you haven’t seen Lauren at a conference it might be because you weren’t looking low enough. This vertically challenged lady will have to work twice as hard to cover the same amount of ground as her two lazy teammates. Doesn’t that determination deserve some fundraising love? Come on and give big to her account.
Greg Niland aka goodroi has been playing online since 2000. We’d like to say nice things about him since he is going to run 26.2 miles for charity but honestly there are very few redeeming qualities from this shady individual. Please help us encourage him to continue to do good deeds by donating to his fundraising account. If not he might just return to his evil affiliate ways. Any sane person would not risk blowing out a knee or losing toenails just to help some strangers with weird diseases that he can’t even spell.
How You Can Help!
If you don’t feel bad for all the little kids with leukemia and all the other people that are suffering from blood cancer please contact your local bill collection agency. They are always looking for cold, heartless people. If on the other hand you are a human and have a pulse (or have just been embarrassed enough by someone that has a heart), here is what you can do to help:
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this for real?
Unfortunately, YES. Oops we meant to say “Wow! we are sooo excited to sacrifice our bodies to help strangers”. Notice the destination url for our fundraising accounts is teamintraining.org. Our results will be posted on Nike’s website.
How much should I donate?
Donate what you feel comfortable with. I take that back, you cheapo. Give at least as much as you spent at the bar last night. Your donation is tax deductible unlike that money you spent at the strip club.
Did you mention tax deductible?
Yes, all donations go to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which is an offical charity and they will send you a reciept that you can use to claim your charitable tax donation.
Where does the money go?
The money could be going to cover our bar tab, since we believe in karma and don’t want to burn in hell for ever that ain’t happening. The money will go to help patients, families and doctors. Here are a few specifics:
- Provide financial assistance for families touched by blood cancers
- Support a community outreach or professional education program
- Provide educational materials for the Back To School program
- Allow patients to make a First Connection with a trained peer volunteer
- Fund one more day of research searching for a CURE
What was that about toenails?
The bodies of marathon runners take a beating and sometimes things fall off like toenails. Just ask Mel Carson. I’m not even going to talk about the … well lets just say running for five hours can create alot of chafing in areas you would never even expect.
